How to apply for an ADS or ALA scholarship
1. Check the open and close dates for your country, and select your country of citizenship/residency from the list of participating countries for specific information on eligibility, priority areas and how to apply. See the Participating country page for opening and closing dates.
2. If you intend to apply, you must read the Scholarships handbook. The handbook provides information including general eligibility requirements, selection processes, entitlements and awardee responsibilities. Note that AusAID may revise and update the handbook at any time without notice.
3. Some countries encourage and allow you to apply online (only open until 31 May 2011) while others require hard-copy applications. Some allow you to apply for both an ADS and an ALA Scholarship, others have specific requirements for the levels of study that are supported. See Participating country page for more information.
4. Once you have checked the opening and closing dates for your country, and have referred to the Participating Country Profile to see which method of application they will accept, see the below options on how to apply.
Applying online
Go to the Online Australian Scholarships Information System (OASIS) website. When you register online, you will be required to answer some questions to establish your eligibility. You will then be given a unique registration number, username and password.
You do not need to submit your application immediately. You can update your draft application form and supporting documentation until 31 May 2011, (or an earlier date specified on the relevant participating country profile. Once submitted, your application cannot be changed.

Applying by mail
If you are unable to submit your application online, you can apply by mail. Please check your participating country profile for contact details to obtain a hardcopy application form and any other templates such as referee reports (if applicable).
Completed hard copy application forms and supporting documentation must be submitted by the deadline specified by your country. See the opening and closing dates for each country.

Verified true copies
To verify a document as a true copy, you should present the original document and the copy to a Commissioner of Oaths, Public Notary or other formally recognised authority in your home country. This official should sight both documents and verify with a stamp and/or a signature that the copy is a true copy of the original document. You will have to pay any fees charged by officials for verifying documents.
If you are submitting an online application, you should scan the verified true copies of your supporting documents (not the originals) and attach them as PDF files with your application.

Australian Development Scholarships
Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) are long term development awards administered by AusAID. ADS aim to contribute to the long term development needs of Australia's partner countries in line with bilateral and regional agreements. They provide opportunities for people from developing countries to undertake full time undergraduate or postgraduate study at participating Australian universities and Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutions.
The study and research opportunities provided by ADS develop skills and knowledge of individuals to drive change and contribute to the development outcomes of their own country.
Scholarship benefits
ADS are offered for the minimum period necessary for the individual to complete the academic program specified by the Australian higher education institution, including any preparatory training. The following benefits generally apply:
* full tuition fees
* return air travel—payment of a single return, economy class airfare to and from Australia, via the most direct route
* establishment allowance—a once only payment of A$5,000 as a contribution towards as accommodation expenses, text books, study materials
* Contribution to Living Expenses (CLE) is a fortnightly contribution to basic living expenses paid at a rate determined by AusAID. From 1 July 2009, CLE payable to students studying under the Australian Development Scholarship (ADS) is A$25,000.
* Introductory Academic Program (IAP)—a compulsory 4-6 week program prior to the commencement of formal academic studies covering information on life and study in Australia.
* Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the duration of the award (for award holder only)—provided to cover the student's basic medical costs (with the exception of pre existing conditions)
* Pre-course English (PCE) fees—if deemed necessary PCE may be available for students for in-country and/or in-Australia training
* Supplementary Academic Support (Tutorial Assistance)—may be available when essential to improve the student's performance to ensure their academic success
* fieldwork (for research students only)—may be available for eligible research students for one return economy class airfare via the most direct route to their country of citizenship or within Australia.
ADS conditions
Applicants who are offered an Australian Development Scholarship will be required to sign a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia declaring that they will comply with the conditions of the scholarship and the ADS Handbook. Partner governments may also apply their own separate conditions to the scholarship.
Awardees are required to return to their country of citizenship for a minimum of two years after completing their scholarship, to contribute to the economic and social development of their country. Failure to do so will incur a debt to the Commonwealth of Australia for the total cost of the scholarship.

Buku yang terdiri dari enam bagian ini mengingatkan kembali perspektif pesantren terhadap perjalanan bangsa Indonesia dari masa penjajahan, perjuangan, bahkan perannya di era teknologi ini. Apa yang harus dilakukan oleh komunitas pesantren dalam menghadapi perkembangan teknologi? Bagaimana kesiapan pemerintah dalam menghadapi era masyarakat netizen, dan upaya-upaya untuk menipiskan kesenjangan teknologi di negeri ini?.
Bab pertama buku ini mengulas sejarah dan peran pesantren sebagai salah satu lembaga pendidikan Islam tertua di Indonesia. Disamping itu pesantren juga sebagai salah satu kekuatan utama dalam memperjuangkan kemerdekaan bangsa Indonesia. Sebagai lembaga yang menjunjung nilai-nilai keagamaan, pesantren telah ikut memberi warna dalam perjalanan bangsa ini sejak jaman perjuangan melawan Belanda, pada masa kemerdekaan, sampai kondisi bangsa terkini. Dari pesantren telah banyak melahirkan pemimpin bangsa.
Pada bab kedua buku ini memaparkan berbagai contoh kesenjangan penguasaan teknologi di Indonesia. Perkembangan teknologi yang begitu cepat dan tak bisa dibendung lagi, namun di Indonesia penyebarannya belum begitu merata. Banyak kendala yang harus diatasi, luasnya negara Indonesia dan banyaknya pulau menjadi salah satu alasan teknologi belum bisa dinikmati secara merata oleh bangsa Indonesia.
Telkom sebagai mesin utama dalam dunia teknologi informasi merasa bertanggungjawab terhadap kenyataan kesenjangan ini. Hal utama yang dilakukan adalah dengan membangun infrastruktur yang diberi nama Palapa Ring. Mega proyek ini menggelar jaringan serat optik nasional yang akan menjangkau 33 provinsi, 440 kota/kabupaten di seluruh Indonesia. Sedangakan untuk pengembangan sumberdaya manusia Telkom mengembangkan ‘Ma syarakat Digital’ dengan program perluasan akses internet dan Indigo Creative.
Untuk komunitas pesantren, Telkom menggandeng REPUBLIKA menggelar program Santri Indigo. Program itu pada intinya memberikan pelatihan internet kepada santri. Harapannya, kelak para santri alumninya bisa melakukan dakwah bukan saja lewat syiar konvensional tetapi juga lewat internet. Inilah salah satu upaya yang dilakukan untuk menipiskan kesenjangan penguasaan teknologi bagi bangsa ini.
Pada bagian tiga buku dengan ketebalan 189 halaman ini mengulas dilema masuknya teknologi khususnya internet di lingkungan pesantren. Secara gamblang buku ini menjelaskan mengapa alat komunikasi internasional yang dianggap sebagian masyarakat sebagai sarang kemaksiatan ini layak dipelajari oleh para calon da'i di pesantren.
Ibarat pisau bermata ganda, demikian sebutan untuk internet, bisa digunakan untuk hal-hal yang positif, konstruktif, namun juga bisa untuk hal yang negatif. Kehadiran internet tidak untuk ditolak dan dijauhi, namun harus kita dekati, dipelajari dan dimanfaatkan untuk hal-hal yang bermanfaat.
Paradigma masyarakat bahwa internet sangat dekat dengan pornografi tidak salah, namun masih terbuka lebar peluang untuk mengubah internet menjadi sumur pengetahuan bahkan sebagai media dakwah.
Bagaimana caranya? Para santri yang juga sebagai calon da'i harus menguasai teknologi termasuk internet, lalu membanjiri internet dengan konten-konten yang bermanfaat, filtering terhadap konten 'sampah' harus dilakukan, dan peran pemerintah sangat diperlukan dengan berbagai kebijakan dan peraturan.
Selain itu upaya untuk menandingi konten negatif di internet, diperlukan gerakan massa (Mass Action) dengan cara membanjiri internet dengan informasi berkwalitas.
Di Indonesia terdapat 45 juta orang telah menjadi penduduk internet, dan 64% diantaranya berusia muda (15-19 tahun), mereka itulah yang biasa disebut sebagai generasi Netizen, artinya generasi yang ketika lahir telah mengenal teknologi informasi. Diantara para penduduk internet Indonesia itulah juga terdapat para santri.
Bagi para santri, jangan larang mereka untuk mengeksplor sesuatu yang mereka ingin tahu di internet, namun bekali kepada mereka, dampak negatif dan positif nya. Dengan begitu para santri akan tahu, apa resiko dari tindakan mereka. Internet adalah fenomena baru bagi para santri untuk berdakwah, karena tidak dibatasi oleh ruang dan waktu. Dakwah santri di dunia maya relatif lebih murah namun dengan jangkauan yang lebih luas, karena akan dibaca oleh penghuni internet dari berbagai belahan dunia.
Buku yang juga merangkum testimoni dari para kiai dan ustad tentang pentingnya internet di pesantren sebagai media dahwah ini juga memaparkan secara matematis pentingnya memutihkan internet. Lebih 1000 santri telah dilatih dan dibekali pengetahuan internet, 800 weblog telah dibangun, dan mereka siap memutihkan internet.
Dari 14 motivator yang pernah mengajar dalam pelatihan Santri Indigo, mereka juga sepakat untuk memanfaatkan teknologi internet dan mengisinya dengan konten positif. Bahkan Prof Jimly Asshidiqie mantan ketua MK dengan tegas mengatakan bahwa kemajuan teknologi seperti sekarang mempermudah kita menggali ilmu dan kesempatan belajar makin terbuka. Karena itulah santri harus membuka diri terhadap teknologi,’’ . Jika tidak, santri akan tergilas zaman.
Namun upaya mengubah internet menjadi media pembelajaran yang positif perlu kerjasama antara pemerintah, lembaga pendidikan, penyandang dana, dan masyarakat secara luas.
Mari kita manfaatkan internet karena Internet Adalah Kekuatan Baru Sistem Komunikasi masa depan.
